Blackberry 9700, the best Blackberry yet.
The Blackberry has come a long way and is one of the leading phones for business at present, and each iteration improves quite a bit, but it’s fair to say that this BlackBerry is the best yet. And for businesses it’s dynamite, blowing even the iPhone 4 off its perch as favourite device.
The nitty gritty
RIM has taken all of the things they’ve learned and created a business Blackberry that anyone can get used to. On all major networks, the Blackberry 9700 was the pinnacle of design in late 2009 and hasn’t dated in the slightest.
A massively responsive, incredible display tops out what is one of the best blackberries you’ll ever experience. A track pad instead of trackball that can take a few days to adapt to and a slightly different keyboard than older BlackBerries round off the interface. Depending on your network you’ll also have access to some goodies, talk to your business tariff provider if in doubt.
The downsides include slow software and only basic fixes to the software itself – though, this isn’t to do with the Blackberry, but the code it’s running. Social networking and maps, browsing and video upload all tested out as slow, incredibly slow or so slow you could probably walk faster to get the information, which wasn’t good, but again, some of that is down to wireless and 3g access.
However its email system is unbeatable, as is its ability to multi-task, a feature that BlackBerry heavily capitalise on, making it a business mobile for the savvy user. Add to that the battery life is absolutely astonishing at around 48 hours it’s double the reported for the iPhone 3gs for business. Given that this is with everything running, it’s an amazing battery life. While it’s important to consider this, it’s equally important to consider whether this matters – if you’re docking and plugging in your phone to charge every day, it should be incredibly easy to keep it fully powered anyway.
Overall, the Blackberry is an amazing piece of kit that allows you to access your email on the go, work on documents, edit and save information, browse the web and Facebook (if you can forgive it’s slowness) and is most of all a reliable phone.
